Dj Flight and L-Double leaving 1Xtra

1Xtra

Taken from the 1Xtra Press Office:

Presenters leaving the station as part of the schedule changes are:
DJ Flight
L Double
[...]

More Hip Hop / RnB, less Drum and Bass. Baileys show is being moved to Flights former Spot on Wednesday. A move from underground to mainstream. Personally i think Flights Show was the freshest, most cutting-edge one on 1Xtra and it will surely be missed alot.

Thumbs Down.

  3. BurnRate, August 3, 2007 at 16:06

    This is NOT GOOD!!!

Flight, you will be VERY sorely missed.

  4. barnaby wood, August 3, 2007 at 16:17

I cannot believe they are axing dj flights show. For fucks sake what is the point of starting up a new radio staition aimed at pushing new exciting music and then canceling one of the only shows on there that caries this idea through. This is such bullshit. Who ever made this decision is a complete idiot imo. Fuck it lets just all listen to that same fucking umbrella tune for the rest of our lives.

  5. Rollo, August 3, 2007 at 16:23

Gutted to say the least!!! Bigs to Flight for rolling out the finest cuts (new and old) from upcoming and established producers of the finest musical dnb. The show will be missed big time….

  6. deadlarge, August 3, 2007 at 16:33

sucks. especially the Flight part ://

  7. Mad Wax, August 3, 2007 at 16:51

    bah…. damn them

  8. N.O.K, August 3, 2007 at 17:20

every week i was waiting a new show with flight..now..it’s over :/

  9. Jrad, August 3, 2007 at 17:48

    THIS IS COMPLETE BULLOX!

  10. Ghostskillz, August 3, 2007 at 17:58

    WTH

First they cancel out Xcalibah and J Da Flex, both did outstanding shows on 1Xtra playing out lot of great tunes.
Now this…they should drop Bailey aswell and show their true musical taste. I don’t believe this!

  11. 2lip, August 3, 2007 at 18:14

really a shame! flight’s show will certainly be missed as it was by far the best of the 4 dnb spots at 1Xtra! :-(

  12. henree, August 3, 2007 at 19:06

    what the fuck???

    that’s really shocking news.

flight pushed lots of new talents.

let’s hope bbc won’t kick fabio as well!!!

i wish i had one more hand to show one more thumb down

  13. nate, August 3, 2007 at 20:14

    sad news

  14. roxnadz, August 3, 2007 at 20:36

    buuuuuuh, thats sucks ;

  15. Loz, August 3, 2007 at 21:46

Happened back in the day with Kiss and now 1 Xtra have done the same.
When will these idiots realise that you cant stop this music??!!

  16. EHO, August 3, 2007 at 22:48

    This is terrible :(

Flight’s show is *the* freshness! She does an excellent job and really brings the best flavours.

    I don’t care for L Double’s selection but he’s an excellent presenter.

More Hip Hop and R&B? Shit, that’s all a person hears anywhere anyways. What’s the point?

  17. tony, August 3, 2007 at 23:06

    damn suxor ;\

  18. joe, August 4, 2007 at 00:09

great. just what we need, more RnB. its everywhere you go. every clothes shop, every sports shop, all the city center clubs and pubs. i was at the pub the other day and got so tired of listening to RnB that i put ‘peshay - on the nile’, on the jukebox, it was a really nice warm day and it just took me away to egypt, with that sunny, lazy jazzy vibe. guess what? everyone hated it. no imagination. no taste in music. complete bunch of fucking morons.

  19. sam, August 4, 2007 at 01:37

fuck 1xtra , wasnt the point of 1xtra is to push NEW and FRESH music… not more bullshit rnb & hiphop… assholes! so now there is only bailey and fabio grooverider… they better not fuck with those guys!

  20. sam, August 4, 2007 at 01:41

p.s. fuck crissy cris’ show too… they kept the 2 crappier shows???!!!! idiots

  21. dj rowney manchester, August 4, 2007 at 03:00

what a joke… fuck commercial rnb bullshit, mainstream stations like galaxy and radio 1 rinse it anyway, dnb gets a poxy 2 hrs a week on radio 1 and now 1xtra is cutting down too??? 1xtrasaid it prided itself on being ‘different’ but now its proving its under the thumb media attention and mainstream preferences..looks like we’ll have to go it alone again, maybe it will bring the scene closer together again who knows…
it is a joke, at least london heads have got kool and about 90 other stations 2 tune into lol…bad move this
fuck the tools who decided to do this

  22. rowan, August 4, 2007 at 04:05

    poor form.

  23. B.Riggs, August 4, 2007 at 07:54

horrible move…. FLight was definitely the best pusher of GOOD DnB…

  24. Don Cherry Boy, August 4, 2007 at 09:01

oioi….pls change to crissy chris. no more commercial d&b…

Flight is best dj in this scene.

  25. dudu, August 4, 2007 at 10:08

1Xtra was for me allways the place where you could hear dnb in its whole perspective, the 1xtra dj’s where even creating new directions in wich the different styles to evolve.
Some of the shows where visionary for my inspiration.
    Thank You!

  26. j schwen, August 4, 2007 at 17:42

Always looked forward to Flight’s shows…will be sorely missed.

  27. wilder, August 4, 2007 at 21:34

    well shit

  28. d-lite, August 4, 2007 at 23:00

    a crime

  29. Dj obscure, August 4, 2007 at 23:26

    Gutted! :[

  30. Second Coming, August 4, 2007 at 23:36

terrible behaviour by the idiots at 1xtra! I for one will not be tuning into the new shit they are playing!

  31. riomx, August 5, 2007 at 02:40

    same here.

They just don’t realize how far of a reach Flight’s show had.

I listened every week even here in Denver, Colorado.

I have some friends in Ohio that also tuned into her show.

Every week I listened to the show to get an idea of forthcoming tunes from the deep side of DNB. Now that’s over…great.

I hope they don’t axe Fabio & Grooverider’s show…even if I have to put up with 60% clownstep and noise most of the time

  32. dj irah, August 5, 2007 at 04:39

    Bring them back NOW!!!!!!!!

  33. dj irah, August 5, 2007 at 04:39

    BRING THEM BACK!!!

  34. cecius, August 5, 2007 at 06:53

balls. plain and simple. freakin balls.

  35. Andy, August 5, 2007 at 16:29

Taken from the 1xtra website. Contact them NOW and tell them how pissed off you are over this move!

Our postal address is: 1Xtra, PO Box 1X, London, W1A.
Or you can email us: 1xtra@bbc.co.uk

  36. fuck the bbc, August 5, 2007 at 18:26

yet again the bbc prove themselves blind to anything pushing the boundaries… I reckon it’s cos dnb doesn’t fit into this ‘britishness’ nationalistic themed bollocks that they currently have an obsession with. Instead, they promote rnb- now there’s something to aspire to as a nation

  37. ben, August 6, 2007 at 00:58

I pay my licence fee. One extra was set up to be an outlet for underground music. You have just axed a dj who was championing an underground sound; a sound which had the decision makers had any clue whatsoever, would have known is the ONLY area of drum and bass that is capable of producing progressive, diverse sounds; sounds that are shaping the future of not only the genre but of music as a whole. I’m not merely talking of some obscure sound with nothing but a small cult following but a sound that is commercially viable as well as being musically challenging. This must be added for I fear that the only motivation for this move is money and a desire for popuarlism. But this ill advised move has paradoxically caused the end of the most creative show on the station in terms of drum and bass, to be supersceded by the most commercially short lived and musically dead form of the music.

If the perpertrators of this travesty only knew how badly wrong they have got it. To be axed entirely??? A change of slot would have been undesirable, but please give me and many others some justification for what has happened; other than a sad example of yet another aspect of the dumbing down of the bbc, and in this case of an outlet for cutting edge music, in order appeal to a mass market; alll of which fly entirely in the face of the supposed idea behind 1extra. The shortsightedness is breathtakng.

Give me some reason why this show should not be put back online forthwith. And tell me why I should pay my licence for this behaviour.

  40. Optimus, August 6, 2007 at 11:26

Drum n Bass 15 yrs n still the most cuttin edge sound in music…you can’t stop the bumrush!!!!!

  41. pookie, August 6, 2007 at 11:42

sad news… if i had to pick just one dnb dj to keep they’re show it would without a doubt be flight

  42. Someone, August 6, 2007 at 12:29

Flight and L-Dub should get a show on Bassdrive.com and be like, “Wot?”

  43. Aditya, August 6, 2007 at 13:11

im from india and honestly, this is just WRONG! frickin bbc. what’re they thinking! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM!

  44. CZOPERSON, August 6, 2007 at 13:33

    hmmmmmmmm….. :$

  45. Sol.ID, August 6, 2007 at 13:48

i find this to be both a shame and an unpleasant surprise =/

  46. roomintheback, August 6, 2007 at 13:58

Yeah I’m sure you will have all forgotten them in a year. I love change I love D&B I think 5 years is enough you need change. As for Excalibah and J Da Flex great guys with only a few listeners what’s the point. L Double is older than my dad amd I’m 27!!!

  47. Punctual, August 6, 2007 at 14:53

    @roomintheback

What change? The only change here is two people representing dnb being erased from the lineup. Its not like they are passing the torch here. As for whats the point, the point is having a legit outlet for dnb, not pirate (but god bless em for what they do), or net radio shows that are under constant veiled threats by the mainstream recording industry. Its about recognition for dnb as quality music, to give it a platform. Also age has jack shit to do with music appreciation. If there is an age limit please inform the rest of us. I think your going to be the one who forgets about this in a year, because you can’t see the larger picture. At least we still have Bailey….for now.

  48. Juice Blender, August 6, 2007 at 16:10

    Utter rubbish….

    Flight needs to stay!

  49. cordani, August 6, 2007 at 17:34

  52. wackybacky, August 7, 2007 at 01:13

    bad bad move. pricks!

  53. OkayDoood, August 7, 2007 at 07:43

Signed the petition, and sent 1xtra an email directly.

When will they realize that a source of long term profits and building of big radio brands is the proliferation of underground experimentation in music? Just like a medical company has scientists experimenting, creating new drugs; drum n bass has envelope pushers - those underground heads that introduce new music and artists to the scene.

Thanks for giving a heads up on the news, breaksblog crew.

  54. OkayDoood, August 7, 2007 at 07:50

    @ Someone
“Flight and L-Dub should get a show on Bassdrive.com and be like, “Wot?”” hahahahahahahahaha

    @ Ben
    +1

Now if they ditch Bailey….. that will be the last straw. I will take a vacation from radio1/1xtra all together and come back when they’ve regained their sanity.

    All the way live from:
    Southern California, USA

  55. wolfeyes, August 7, 2007 at 12:57

thats very bad.she is a great dj and had an amazing show.someone is really out of touch there.

  58. releasechi, August 8, 2007 at 00:44

i signed the petition in flights support .. but to be honest she should just tell them to go fuck themselves and go somewhere where shes appreciated for her discerning tastes.

  59. soundsurfer, August 8, 2007 at 10:06

  60. Flo, August 8, 2007 at 18:15

Pettion is signed. I can’t believe what’s goinig on…what the hell is going on with “Great” - British Broadcasting Corporation????

They do that for what: more RnB? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHrrrrg :-(

    @ joe August 4th, 2007 at 00:09:21
I had the same fuckin’ situation last weekend here in Berlin and there were no “peshay-musicbox”…but i had still my fantasy and imagined the track “So High” from Solar Eclipse ;-)

I heard this wonderful track first time on Flight’s Next Chapter…and now i won’t get any more fresh tunes from upcoming producers like that…

This is more than Bullox. Flight, i’ll miss your VOICE :-(
Hope that i can see you here in Berlin at the Water-Gate-Club and can listen to another big set from you.

  61. intawarrior, August 8, 2007 at 21:22

maybe the people responsible for the changes in program will sooner or later recognize who made 1xtra what it is now: the no.1 station for uk black music.
does anyone know just one of their r’n'b djs?? and do you know why not???

  62. JFK, August 9, 2007 at 12:01

I’m with releasechi on this one.
Flight and L-Double should just tell 1xtra to go fuck themselves
Who Jah bless, no man curse.
Don’t 1xtra understand this or what, there are enough black heads in the place.
    Petition is signed

  63. Eric B, August 9, 2007 at 14:01

Out in the US, I never really tuned in to flight, but was always told that I should on the net. Maybe I will now while I still can. Caught L Double a few times and I was never disappointed. Is this a sign of whats going on over in the founding country?

  64. Knownbrand, August 10, 2007 at 09:34

This really is a kick in the testicles by a big heavy boot.

  65. 0=0, August 10, 2007 at 10:54

not a lot of good rnb has come out of the uk in the past 5 years

BUT A HELL OF A LOT OF GREAT DNB HAS COME OUT OF THE UK IN THAT TIME! FLIGHT WAS A HUGE PARt OF THAT! STILL IS!

    FUCK THIS SHIT!

    1xtra needs to fix up.

    what a load of shit!!!

  70. rondema, August 17, 2007 at 12:41

Jesus. How has it come to this? Axeing Flight’s show is an unforgiveable move imo

  71. RudebwoyMS, August 22, 2007 at 14:32

fi real, not a good choice….
“more rnb, less dnb”?? what a silly step….

  72. Flight, September 1, 2007 at 04:16

Thanks a lot for the support guys, it truly means a lot ;)

  73. Robin, September 3, 2007 at 02:06

One of the few good things to come from mass entertainment in recent years: a positive, highly talented, female black british dj, pushing forward musical boundaries for the first time in a long time in a scene in danger of extinction due to stagnation and nepotism. Flights’ show has been a lifeline to many and has opened the door to producers from across the world, young and old, male and female, looking to create original music. To someone who has followed the scene from the start, it was clear that this show built on the original foundations of unity and innovation. Anything Flight has turned her hand to has been hallmarked with quality and professionalism and in spite of her success she has remained humble, down to earth and approachable, which has got to have been a great example for some people, especially nowadays. Flighty, I know you will overcome this injustice and until you return we will all really miss your voice and your top notch tune selection. May the Almighty continue to bless you and keep you safe. ps If this post had a soundtrack it would be “Sparrow” & “Abraham, Martin & John”, Marvin Gaye versions of course.

  74. Tim, September 5, 2007 at 10:39

    LAST SHOW BY FLIGHTY TONIGHT!

  75. Neil, September 10, 2007 at 08:56

Westwood and Nelson will be on Radio1 and 1Xtra. Thats just plain stupid.

  76. Jakub, September 12, 2007 at 03:30

Maaan… this is real bummer. Barely found out today. These were the badest radio shows on the planet!

  77. pist, September 12, 2007 at 12:39

Yes its a pisstake, surely BBC cant be worried about profits cos they don’t run ads…. just wanna be bastards and make 1xtra the same as Kiss (ie shit).

If u listen to the daytime presenters they have on there, they are pretty shit and patronising, unless your a particularly ignorant 13 year old. I guess even commercial DnB is too edgy. Might stimulate some mental activity. Now we can’t have that…

  78. nick m/cr, September 18, 2007 at 19:35

just heard really fuck off what the fuck is all that about?does any cunt know???.very silly decision bastards wankers i wanna fuckin kill em.

  79. Jeff, September 24, 2007 at 17:46

I am late in getting the news. Sad days. I caught both Flight & L Doubles first shows. Sorry to have them go. Bailey is my guy too but why have one head when you can have three headz?? I am sure Flight & L Dobule will turn up across these wavelenghts soon.

  80. EM' Progression, September 27, 2007 at 16:39

It’s just disappointing. One less good thing to listen to on the internet. I’m not going to hate on other music, but if they were going to be replace, I thought it would be to new DnB Dj’s. I really enjoyed Flight’s show, personality and guests. I really enjoyed the intensity of L Double’s show as well. Isn’t there enough RnB/hiphop on regular radio? I don’t understand. Wow, very disappointing. Hopefully they will come back. That was a good platform to hear Dj’s and interview and all of that, now it is gone and that’s just another lump on the head of DnB. When is our music gonna get some respect? Give us back our time!

  81. hkb, September 28, 2007 at 02:34

Ditto on what some other people have said about the beeb probably not realizing the reach Flight’s show had. I’ve been listening for years, from Philly and now China. I can’t imagine anybody abroad bothering to stream a hip hop or rnb show. That music is available everywhere.

We still have a lot of good dnb podcasts, but there’s something about a radio show that is just more appealing to me than a podcast.

    Bad move 1xtra.

    no good nono

  85. Rob, October 25, 2007 at 16:25
