Yep, Gilles finally got around to a Brownswood Basement Special that he’s been promising since about 2003! He spent a whole day rummaging through stacks of 12’s, white labels and old acetates and pulled out about 40 old favourites. Photek, Peshay, Goldie, DJ Hype, Source Direct, LTJ Bukem, Roni Size, Ed Rush & Optical… 110% underground heaters, classic material and golden memories, it’s by no means a comprehensive history of D&B, but it is a great snapshot of a scene in full flow.
I am quite late on this one but this is one you should not miss. Gilles Peterson providing a two hours history lesson with loads of classic tuneage from the golden years of drum and bass. New producers please take notes.
The legendary DJ Storm (Metalheadz) pitchriding her way through quality tuneage of all color. A proper 1 hour, hq audio session that oozes character and quality … Check out the full feature and interview over at kmag.co.uk. Big!
Raise up your lightas one time for the memory of Kemistry, and make sure you’re doing nothing but going to this fresh event on the 28th of April! RIP KEMISTRY!
Wow. Dj Storm initiated the KEMISTRY REMEMBERED (28 APRIL 2009) event in rememberance to her dj partner and soul sister Dj Kemistry who passed away on the 25th of April, 10 Years ago. Soak up some history, visit that Event (unbelievable lineup, £3 on the door) and download the class(ic) Dj Kicks “Kemistry & Storm” (Studio !K7) made available for free download over at DOA.
Another rare blast from the past. Dr. S. Gachet recorded at Gravity in Perth, Australia in 1997 with an deep and slightly unusual selection from the days when the bright and dark sounds still went together so nicely.
Many thanks to Devo who recorded these sets from cassette tape by request for Mr. Rollo.
Grooverider back in Session! Here is a quick interview and some background info in case you have missed the whole story. The world has (not) changed. History.
Chris @ Metalheadz posted this set over at DOA wondering where drum and bass has gone wrong. In said thread there are some good points on the changes that happened to the music. Too much focus on getting the loudest pressing, most tearing midrange and a miseducated crowd that will only respond to obvious rave signals are the main issues in my opinion. Old story and there is surely enough talented people and dope beats out there so please go buy the music and enjoy this nice little set straight from the Blue Note Club, London back in 1997.
Oh and Chris also dopped this info:
This is one of many…I got 10 + sets so far out of the 500 from blue note, hanover grand, dingwalls, heaven etc…
eman: this mix is excellent. thanks for heads up!… Tom: @Felix K: thanks for such a great mix! are you planning a part 2? pleeeease?… Felix K: Hey all. Thank you for listening.… Wagner: please, tracklist! :]… Tom: still fresh a year on. big up madcap!… Jesse/Fresh: super fresh! featured this one on our website too!… kuts: raw kuts ;) ^^…
