Den Anfang in einer Reihe von
überraschenden, internationalen Gästen, die “Interference” im Herbst und Winter ’04 präsentieren wird, macht Dj Rohan.

Als Labelchef und Dj des irischen drumandbass-labels ‚Bassbin Recordings’
hat Rohan in den letzten Jahren die sonst so britische Breakbeat-Landschaft
gehörig beeinflusst. Mit Bassbin Künstlern wie Zero Tolerance, Breakage,
Digital oder Calibre haben der Dub und die Funk-Breaks wieder Einzug in
einen Musikstil gehalten, der eine tiefgehende Frischzellenkur so bitter
nötig hatte.

Für Rohan und sein Bassbin-Label hat sich die Pionierarbeit ausgezahlt:
Bassbin gehört heute zu den respektiertesten Labels der Szene und Rohan
ist schon lange ein Dj von internationalem Format. Um so sehr freuen wir
uns, Rohan am 18.September im Club Apropo als Gast zu haben.

Unterstützt von den Interference Resident-Dj’s Drakestar, Fokus,
Decon & Mistel und Rui Fernandes wird er beweisen, dass jede Menge Gras
nicht das Einzige ist, was Irland und Jamaica gemeinsam haben.

Rohan has been involved in the music scene for the last fourteen years starting off playing reggae and ska alongside the likes of African Headcharge, Culture, Coutney Pine, Potato 5, Skatalites, Prince Buster, On U-Sound etc. :

A love for ragga and hip-hop was developed and in 91 he released his first record, which fused hip-hop and reggae and was released on CT records, under the name of Ajax Disco Spanner. Later the same year he was involved in a cd-rom project contributing two tracks alongside Underworld who also offered up the same. Shortly after Rohan returned to Dublin.:

His first introduction to Dublin’s club scene was a gig at Firehouse Skank (the legendary reggae night). He hooked up with Alan O Boyle( Decal) and started recording under the name of Ajax Disco Spanner. The project was signed to Detox a subsidiary of 4AD and the first Irish drum ‘n’ bass record was released.:

At around the same time Rohan formed Bassbin. A drum ‘n’ bass club that began in 96 at the Mean Fiddler. Various venues were taken in like the Funnel, Music Centre, Tivoli. After the demise of the Funnel, Rohan started Switch with Bassbin on Fridays and D1 on Saturdays. Switch has been nominated in various polls as best club/venue in Ireland and this testament to Rohan’s booking policy. Switch was an underground club that pushed the best underground djs, producers and labels. :

Refuge now resides at Metropolitan every Saturday and is continuing on where we left Switch. The eighth birthday will take place on Sept 11th this year.:

Rohan has played with the likes of Digital, Photek, Doc Scott, Ed Rush, Trace, Suv, Bryan Gee, Marky, Optical, Fierce and Andy C.:

Outside of Dublin, Rohan has residencies in Cork, Limerick and Galway. Rohan has also played at Movement (Bar Rhumba), Traffic, Technicality All in London , Belgium, Holland, Rashdingue Spain (with Ed Rush), Bongo Club (Barcelona) and Homelands (Ireland) where he rocked The End Arena for two and a half hours. In 2002 and 2004 Rohan toured America with 11 dates in San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, North Carolina and New York. :

The main focus over the last few years has been Bassbin Recordings. The label has been going from strength to strength and the 25th release across the three labels has just been unleashed. :

Main players in the scene have been championing the sounds from LTJ Bukem, Hype, Zinc, Total Science, Marcus Intalex, Bailey, Doc Scott, Fabio, Goldie, Bryan G, Dillinja, Goldie, Lemon D, Hype, Flight, Calibre etc .:
